What is Calira?
Calira is an equipment booking and management platform built for shared R&D lab equipment. It replaces spreadsheets, shared calendars, and other makeshift systems with a single place to book, manage, and track instruments across your lab.
What does Calira do?
Calira covers the following areas:
- Equipment booking: a live calendar where users book instruments, with rules that prevent double-bookings and control who can access what.
- Equipment management: a searchable directory of every instrument in your lab, with attached documents, images, SOPs, and metadata.
- Usage data and reporting: structured data on who booked what, when, and for how long. Filter by user, project, funding code, or equipment.
- Maintenance tracking: manage contracts, schedule preventative maintenance, log service history, and set contract expiry reminders.
- User management and access control: role-based permissions, training enforcement, and access groups so the right people use the right instruments.
- Notifications and announcements: for specific equipment or within the lab/site more generally
- Integrations: connects with ELNs (Benchling, SciSure, RSpace), calendars (Outlook, Google Calendar), IoT sensors (Essentim), and external systems via API.
- API and data export: structured booking and usage data available via REST API and CSV export, ready for BI tools or internal reporting.

Who is it for?
Calira is designed for lab operations professionals in biotech and pharma: lab managers, facility managers, operations directors, and anyone responsible for keeping shared equipment running smoothly. Both single-site teams and multi-site enterprises use it.

How is it different from a LIMS or ELN?
Calira is not a LIMS or an ELN. It focuses specifically on equipment booking and operations, the layer that sits between your instruments and your people. It integrates with LIMS and ELN platforms rather than trying to replace them.
