How to set up the Essentim integration

The Essentim integration connects IoT sensors from Essentim to your Calira equipment records. This gives you real-time visibility into instrument status and environmental conditions (such as temperature, humidity, or operational state) directly within Calira, alongside your booking and equipment data.

What the integration provides

Essentim sensors attached to lab instruments report live metrics to the Essentim cloud platform. When connected to Calira, these metrics appear on the equipment detail pages for the instruments being monitored. This means lab managers can see at a glance whether an instrument is running normally, offline, or showing a warning, without switching between platforms.

This is particularly useful for preventing downtime. If a sensor detects an out-of-range condition, the warning or error state is visible in Calira, helping you respond before equipment damage or failed experiments occur.

Requirements

  • A Calira account with the Essentim integration enabled: contact the Calira team to confirm availability on your plan
  • An Essentim account with sensors deployed on the instruments you want to monitor
  • Sensors must be configured and reporting to the Essentim cloud platform before connecting to Calira

How to connect

To set up the integration, contact the Calira team. The connection between your Essentim account and your Calira equipment records is configured on the backend. You will need to provide:

  • Which Calira labs and instruments should be linked to Essentim sensors
  • Your Essentim account details so the integration can be authorised

Once connected, sensor data will begin appearing on the relevant equipment pages in Calira.

What you see in Calira

For each instrument with a connected Essentim sensor, Calira displays:

  • Sensor status: whether the sensor is Running or Offline
  • Live metrics: current values for each metric the sensor tracks (e.g. temperature, CO2 level, vibration)
  • Metric alerts: Warning or Error states when a metric falls outside its expected range

Each metric type is shown with its own icon. If multiple metrics on a sensor have different alert levels, Calira shows an aggregate status based on the most severe condition.

Troubleshooting

  • Sensor shows as Offline: check that the physical sensor is powered on and connected to the network. Verify in the Essentim platform that the sensor is reporting normally.
  • Metrics not appearing in Calira: confirm the sensor is mapped to the correct equipment item. Contact the Calira team if the mapping needs to be updated.
  • Warning or Error status displayed: check the specific metric values in Calira. Address the environmental or instrument condition causing the alert, then verify the sensor returns to a normal state.
